The environment is super important to us here at CSA. Here is some information about how we are actively reducing our impact.
Plastics
Due to the hot-burn nature of our products, we need to use plastics in the shell casing for most of our products. The plastic we use is Polypropylene (PP). This is a thermoplastic polymer which is rugged and unusually resistant to many chemicals, heat, bases and acids. The same plastics found in household bottle caps, jars and many cosmetic products.
When the world creates a more suitable, bio-degradable plastic, our manufactures pledge to swap over to it.
Manufacture
Our partners in Sweden, Bjornax AB, have been readily developing a greener approach since 2001. This includes;
- development of more ECO friendly formulas for pyrotechnics
- R&D into new ECO friendly products
- a 40% reduction of energy used in the production line
- a shift over to recyclable packaging and where possible, ECO friendly materials
- minimising the amount of free waste from our production to nearly zero
- where possible replaced / taken away environmental hazardous chemical ingredients used which effects the released gases and particles.
The overall environmental impact when it comes to global usage is very low. No fossil products are used in the actual deflagration process on the pyrotechnic products, and emissions are very low.
Composition / information
The smoke emitter variants have a H412 hazard which is “harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects” this is due to the potassium chlorate (also used in common safety matches found in the home) and carries a P273 precautionary statement, “avoid release to the environment” meaning directly using the smoke in water or disposing of said products into water bodies of aquatic life (i.e throwing them away into rivers / streams or at the beach, discharge in sewers etc.) This is the lower ranking H4## series hazard classification. The same advice is given for the use of match sticks if you read their MSDS details.
This is the same H412 hazard which is present in other ring-pull smoke emitters etc.
While the output emission of the product is a chemical reaction, it has been tested to not cause harm to the environment upon release of particle and gases. Our official MSDS is available for further information.
ECO Packaging
CSA uses a combination of recycled cardboard, biodegradable packaging tape, and other bio products when packaging items to minimise bad shipping waste and excess plastic.
Tree Planting
For every product sold, CSA plants 1 tree with our partners at Tree-nation.com. So far we have a forest of over 1000+ trees planted all over the globe and will continue to do this to help offset carbon and our environmental impact.
Disposal
Customers are encouraged to dispose of all “cooled-down” emitter remains in household rubbish collections.
