We have posted on our Instagram and on our FAQ but here is a video demonstration for lighting our smoke emitters.
- using a naked flame, ignite the top exposed surface of the smoke emitter. We suggest a “turbo” lighter, available from most servos, as it will ignite if a lot faster.
- continue to light the whole top, until it has all “taken” and starts to burn
- if you see a flame, this is normal, simply blow it out and it will continue to emit normally. It SHOULD NOT continue to emit with a flame on it. You won’t fan the flames by blowing on it.
The 60g will likely produce a flame, often the smaller sizes (18g and under) do not.
Our emitters contain a chemical “oxidiser” meaning they are flammable. There is no fuse or wick to light. This also means they are Non-Dangerous Goods and don’t need a pyrotechnic classification.
As the emitter burns, it melts down like a candle. Please be careful of any “dripping” refuse it produces. It does burn hot, so please be careful if you hand hold it. We suggest holding it on its side and away from sensitive wardrobe etc.
Ideally, it should be used in a heat-proof container or on a tray. Our Handles will be back in stock by around December 2021.
Please use the disposable “kebab” foil lined bags we provide to dispose of refuse. Do not leave it on location.
TIP: It helps if you invert the emitter when lighting in windy conditions or with a cigarette lighter / match as shown below. Because heat rises. #science.
